Hi There, I am newbie interested to venture into this business that you guys are in especially since I have an empty 2-storey shoplot with reasonable surrounding, ie good clearance for birds fly path and nearby river. Since I don't have much experience, I believe I would need to seek a consultant to help do bird calling test, house design, etc. I guess depending on the required scope of work, what is the typical consultancy fees in this industry, such as:- 1) Bird calling testing 2) House Design (I assume it includes overseeing construction and handover) 3) 1st year operation consulting on? 4) Others? Thanks in advance! Cheers, C

we share idea and learn together as different farm, different location have different challenge. i'm basically no charge for consultation. normally, farmer happy then give an ang pow or just a commission. of course, some basic cost has to be covered la, i.e. transportation and etc. pity seeing unsuccessful farm. maybe because i had gone thru' the same path before.

Just my opinion in reply to your inquiries:
1) <RM500. Get a consultant nearby, the price could be lower or even free if you let the guy handle the design & installation works 2) We call it consultation fee, not house design. I would say RM5K (depending on location) 3) If you let the guy handle the design & installation works. It's basically free.
Perhaps you already know all these. For a 2-storey shoplot, it needs about 2.5 ~3 tons of plank (which cost about 2.3k nowadays), 120 ~ 150 tweeters, 20 +/- speakers (outdoor), two humidifier (about RM1k including), brick works, Amps, demolition, etc... Overall cost is about RM40k +/-.

Passion, I really like your comment. We here to share and learn. If possible, it should FOC. Most new farmer facing the finance problem to build a good swiftlet farm (like me ;D) and always try to minimize the cost.I'm now saving money and searching for a new location for BH. Hope can own a shoplot for this business after 2011 chinese new year.

thank kenyeap! my final commend, still same, think twice either start new or buy existing. no matter how or what, location is top priority. always look at it as business point of view, not interest. then probably, u'll see it differently.
